Black Women's Roundtable Hosts Annual Public Policy Day of Action on Capitol Hill

Today, March 16, 2023, the Black Women's Roundtable (BWR) will host its Annual Public Policy Day of Action on Capitol Hill.  The Black Women’s Roundtable is the women and girls’ empowerment arm of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, one of the most active civil rights and social justice organizations in the nation dedicated to increasing civic engagement, economic and voter empowerment in Black America.

The Policy Day of Action will begin with a press conference on the east Senate steps at 10:00 AM, alongside Black women leaders and allies from across the country as they call on Congress to pass critical legislation in support of our communities. The Congressional Black Caucus and Senator Chris Van Hollen (MD) will serve as event co-hosts.

Delegations from BWR State Partners and Affiliates from across the country will descend on Capitol Hill to unveil BWR’s 2023 Policy Agenda for the 118th Congress – among which key policy priorities include civil rights, gender justice, economic security, youth and education, health and wellness, LGBTQIA+ rights and economic rights. This year's agenda includes calls to pass legislation such as the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, the Freedom to Vote Act, and the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

Other policy priorities include the Women's Health Protection Act, the Paycheck Fairness Act, the Childcare for Working Families Act, and the Health Equity and Accountability Act. BWR will also call for legislation to promote homeownership, reduce student loan debt, protect privacy rights, and close the digital divide.

Melanie L. Campbell, NCBCP President and Convener of the Black Women’s Roundtable said, "The Annual Public Policy Day of Action on Capitol Hill is a critical moment for Black women and our allies to make our voices heard on the issues that matter most to us. We are proud to unveil BWR's 2023 Policy Agenda, which reflects the urgent need for action on civil rights, gender justice, economic security, and more. Through our delegation meetings with United States Senators, we will urge Congress to pass legislation that advances the well-being of Black communities and promotes a more just and equitable society for all."
