UNITY '08 Election Day Command Center And Watch Party To Feature Live Webcast, Bloggers, And Multimedia Field Reports

Media briefings with state coordinators, screening calls to 866 MYVOTE 1 hotline, and video reports from battleground states will track problems at the polls and monitor black voter turnout

Washington, DC - The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation’s (NCBCP) Unity ’08 partners will monitor problems at the polls and black voter turnout at their Unity ‘08 Election Day Command Center on Tuesday Nov. 4, 2008. National leaders will assemble at the historic National Council of Negro Women’s (NCNW) headquarters, 633 Pennsylvania Ave NW, to receive reports and trends from key battleground states including: OH, FL, VA, NC, PA, GA, LA, MS, MI, MO, AL, AND TX.

Coordinators on the ground will provide updates via conference calls scheduled throughout the day, blogs, and video reports.

Interviews from the command center will stream live at black campaign www.blackplanet.com, and TVoneonline.com

Comments from Unity ‘08 coordinators will be used on-air on TV One on Election night. Content can be accessed via the NCBCP’s Election Center Toolbar which can be downloaded here.

The Unity ’08 Election Day Command Center is the culmination of the NCBCP’s 18-month Unity ’08 voter registration, education, verification, protection, and get-out-the-vote activities aimed at energizing the black Electorate.

The NCBCP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to increasing black civic engagement and voter participation. Unity ’08 is a coalition of some of the most prestigious organizations working together to turn out a historic number of African American voters in 2008. Campaign partners include: Black Leadership Forum, National Urban League, Black Youth Vote!, National Council of Negro Women, A. Philip Randolph Institute, Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, American Urban Radio Networks, BET, and 100 Black Men of America, among others.
