NCBCP Joins Airbnb in Honoring the Voting Rights Act
The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation (NCBCP) is thrilled to embark on a new community engagement partnership with Airbnb to commemorate the 51st anniversary of the Voting Rights Act that was signed into law by President Lyndon Baines Johnson on August 6th, 1965 following Bloody Sunday in Selma, Alabama. We believe Airbnb is in a unique position to serve as a good corporate citizen by sharing this historic moment to a new generation the importance of voting to bring about positive social change in our nation. NCBCP is launching our Unity '16 Online Voter Registration Drive and Black Youth Vote HBCU Community #Vote4Justice Challenge in partnership with Airbnb to encourage Millennials of color to register to vote, verify their registration status, volunteer to be poll workers and poll monitors; and vote in the Presidential Election on November 8, 2016.
The 51st Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 provides an excellent opportunity to encourage people to make sure they are registered and vote. The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation (NCBCP) and Airbnb would like to announce partnership to honor the Voting Rights Act of 1965. We believe that EVERY vote is important.

STATEMENT FROM AIRBNB ON NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NATIONAL COALITION ON VOTING RIGHTS
On August 6, 1965 the Voting Rights Act was signed into law in order to protect underrepresented groups from being denied their right to vote. For too long, too many Americans, particularly people of color, faced barriers that were designed to keep them from participating in the democratic process. Courageous leaders in the American civil rights movement worked tirelessly to help pass the Voting Rights Act, which was designed to eliminate those barriers.
At Airbnb, we believe that every vote is important. Airbnb hosts and guests are engaged in the communities they call home and we believe that everyone should be able to participate in the crucial conversations that will shape the future of our country.
Our belief in the power of the vote is what drives us to honor the Voting Rights Act and we want to encourage as many people as possible to speak out and vote in upcoming elections.
That’s why we’re proud to announce that we are partnering with three leading civic participation organizations -- The National Coalition for Black Civic Participation, Voto Latino and Democracy Works -- and supporting their work to encourage everyone to participate in our democracy.
