NCBCP Post-Election Media Briefing And Roundtable Discussion

Organized efforts boosted black voter turnout, protected voters and reduced drama at the polls

The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation (NCBCP) will host a Post-Election Media Briefing and Roundtable Discussion to analyze black voter turn out in 2008 and define an agenda for the First 100 Days of the new administration:

at the National Press Club in DC.

Faye Anderson, Anderson@Large, and Gary Flowers, Black Leadership Forum, will moderate.

9:30 am – 11:00 am – POST-ELECTION BRIEFING
Panel One, “What worked to help ensure a historic Black voter turnout?” will take a look at the NCBCP Unity ’08 Campaign and how traditional voter engagement models and new technologies like text messaging and GIS data enhanced the impact of its voter registration, education, GOTV and voter protection work. Hear from state conveners who led Unity ’08 GOTV in 12 states.

Panel two, What Happened?
Were Black Voters the “Difference Makers?” will analyze the impact of black voter turnout in 2008, analyzing the 50 state strategy and the South and a breakdown of the Black vote by age and gender. The role of the faith community in mobilizing, barriers to voting, and voter suppression tactics will be discussed.

11:15 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. - What’s Next: A Black Agenda for the First 100 Days and Beyond
Will feature a roundtable discussion of the priories facing the new administration and 111th Congress.
