National Coalition on Black Civic Participation and Black Women’s Roundtable Issues Statement Regarding U. S. Supreme Court Decision in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 21, 2023) – The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation (NCBCP) and Black Women's Roundtable (BWR) issued a statement today in response to the Supreme Court's decision to halt Judge Kascmaryk's ruling, which would have restricted access to FDA-approved mifepristone.

The impact of this decision cannot be overstated. It ensures that women seeking reproductive healthcare will continue to have access to a safe and effective medication. However, the NCBCP and Black Women's Roundtable recognizes that this is just one step in the ongoing fight for reproductive justice.

Melanie L. Campbell, President and CEO of The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation and Convener of The Black Women’s Roundtable stated, “As an organization committed to advancing the rights and well-being of Black women, we remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their race, gender identity, or socioeconomic status, have access to the healthcare they need. We understand that the fight for reproductive rights and justice is an ongoing struggle, and we will continue to fight to ensure that all individuals have the right to make decisions about their own bodies and lives.

“The NCBCP and Black Women's Roundtable is committed to holding all elected officials accountable and advocating that they share our commitment to codifying the protections afforded by Roe v. Wade into law. This is an essential step in ensuring that individuals have access to the care they need, regardless of the political climate.”

“While we recognize the importance of today's decision, we know that the fight for reproductive justice is far from over. We stand in solidarity with our partners in the reproductive rights and justice movement and will continue advocating for policies that advance the health and well-being of all individuals.”
