The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation's Spirit of Democracy Awards To Honor Civil Rights, Economic Empowerment, Labor & Social Justice Champions and Public Servants on Wednesday, October 16 in Washington, DC

NCBCP celebrates the diversity of our nation’s democracy with intergenerational People of Color Leadership Roundtable.

October 2, 2019—The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation (NCBCP) will celebrate the 43rd anniversary of its founding as the nation’s largest alliance of Black civil rights, economic empowerment and social justice organizations with the annual Spirit of Democracy Awards celebration on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at The Hamilton in Washington, DC. The event, in its 22nd year, will honor some of the nation’s best, brightest, and most legendary public servants and champions for civil rights, economic empowerment, labor and social justice. The Spirit ’22 honorees will be celebrated for their leadership and commitment for the nation to “live up to its promise” for all of its people to have equal opportunity; and to make the country a safer, fairer and more inclusive democracy for people of color and the underserved of all races, ethnicities, genders and ages.

The evening event begins at 6:00 p.m. with a Chairman’s Reception. Veteran journalist Roland Martin (founder and host of #RolandMartinUnfiltered) and Meshelle, The Indie-Mom of Comedy, will emcee the awards ceremony that starts at 7:00 p.m. and moderate an intergenerational People of Color Leadership Roundtable discussion with honorees that will immediately follow and conclude by 9:30 p.m.
