The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation and Black Women’s Roundtable Mourns the Passing of Alexis Herman
The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation and Black Women’s Roundtable is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Alexis M. Herman, the first woman to serve as the Secretary of Labor during the Clinton Administration.
Melanie L. Campbell, President & CEO, NCBCP and National Convener, Black Women’s Roundtable, stated, "Our nation and world has lost a visionary and committed servant leader, who dedicated her life to public service, civil rights, women's rights, workers' rights, economic empowerment for Black Americans and so much more."
"Alexis open doors of opportunity in the public sector and private sector for so many young women that helped to catapult their careers with a deep understanding that they also be committed to serving others as core to being a good leader."
"Although our hearts are broken, we know she has joined the ancestors, like her mentor Dr. Dorothy Irene Height and her star will always shine bright above the skies."
"I was blessed to have known Alexis as my soror in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. She shared her wisdom, encouragement and love with me throughout my civil rights movement leadership journey and I am eternally grateful."
"Praying for the Herman Family. May she rest in eternal peace and power."
